Lately a lot of projects turned 10 years old (like GNOME), and a lot of people wrote retrospectives about how things were 10 years ago (like Andre Klapper). I’ve been using computers since the early 90’s, and by the time I got Internet, Geocities was a very popular web hosting service. “Homepages” were grouped in thematic “neighborhoods”, creating one of the first social network services out there. Fast forward for today: I just received the (three months late) news that Yahoo! will be closing Geocities in a few weeks. I’m a little shocked. Not that I will miss Geocities, we’ve got better things today, but it’s weird to feel that time is passing.
